It looks the forum is back on... Thanks for making this possible. I've missed it. About more information about the famous faces card... I don't have it. I came across it online. That's all I know.
It feels so good to have the DORIS DAY FORUM return. Fortunately, it was down for only two weeks. I believe that last year it was for a month or two.
The first photo of the letter from Doris is dated November 2- 1976 and signed DORIS DAY COMDEN. I haven't seen this written signature before. The following 4 photos of Doris with her dog Biggest advertising her new line of Doris Day's Pet Foods are new to me. Doris's husband Barry Comden, came up with the idea for the pet food line. A number of financial problems may have occured and this caused a strain in the marriage, according to some books. After the financial debts left after Martin Melcher died, it is understandable more financial problems would cause a strain. According to other reports, there were no financial problems reported. Barry Comden said Doris preferred the company of her many dogs to him. Records indicate their divorce on April 2 - 1982.
The photo of Doris on the Lucky Me set with Judy Garland and James Mason is another surprise. Doris wrote about how much fun Judy was to travel with. Doris also said she and Judy had similar backgrounds starting off as young performers.
The black and white photo of Doris sitting next to the wicker baskets is interesting. I am wondering if it is from a film set in the early 1950's.
The Twinkle and Shine movie poster with Doris and Jack Lemmon is new to me. It looks like a more interesting poster than the It Happened to Jane poster.
Yesterday I watched again on TCM Billy Rose's Jumbo. It is a film with strong production values, outstanding performances , and beautiful, timeless songs. I laughed out loud watching Jimmy Durante tell Martha Raye he was going to make her a shooting star as he gets ready to shoot her out of a canon. It is a classic film filled with warmth and charm that every child should watch.
Thank you Peter for this delightful collection of Doris Day photos that prompt so many enjoyable memories.
The weather in Canada is sunny, cool and crisp with autumn leaves in glorious colour's of gold, red and green. Have a beautiful autumn.
